Competition Update: New Venue Selected for February 22nd to Ensure Safe Conditions
Following extensive safety work on the mountain today, the Freeride World Tour remains on track to hold the competition on Saturday, February 22. However, after a thorough assessment by the FWT Commissioner and our team of mountain guides, it has been determined that the Kakhiani face is not suitable due to safety concerns.
As a result, the competition will now take place on Kaseb, a South-West facing face that provides a safer and more suitable venue for this stage of the tour. The decision was made to prioritize both rider safety and competition quality, with the event scheduled to take place in the afternoon. Further details will be shared as they become available.
Kaseb: A High-Altitude, Feature-Packed Venue
The Kaseb face presents a steep, technical challenge with a dense concentration of large natural features, demanding precision and commitment from riders. At an altitude of 3,400m, it is the highest start elevation of the FWT season, adding an extra challenge due to the effects of high altitude.
With a summit elevation of 3,400m and a finish line at 3,025m, Kaseb features a vertical drop of 375m. The South-West facing slope has an average steepness of 36°, with sections reaching up to 42°, making it a highly technical and demanding descent.

What to Expect on Competition Day
With stacked features and minimal open skiing sections, the competition on Kaseb will be all about amplitude, creativity, and execution. Riders looking to make an impact will need to send big tricks and take advantage of the natural jumps to boost their scores.
